2009

• Luca Caputi scored his first NHL goal on his first NHL shift in a game against the Montreal Canadiens (2:30 into the game); it was the second-fastest goal by a Penguins player making his NHL debut since Rick Kessell scored 2:19 into his first NHL game against Chicago on March 21, 1970

2007

• Marc-Andre Fleury held the Washington Capitals scoreless on 30 shots for his sixth NHL shutout

2001

• Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate, Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (the Baby Pens), played a tribute game at the Mellon Arena against the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (they wore Hornets jerseys and a banner was raised at the arena that celebrated the three Hornets’ Calder Cup Championships)

1977

• Dunc Wilson stopped 22 shots from the Cleveland Barons and earned his fifth shutout with the Penguins

1968

• the first sellout crowd at the Civic Arena (12,563) watched the Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs play to a 3-3 tie

1963

• the Pittsburgh Hornets lost to the Springfield Indians, 4-2, in what would begin the AHL’s record for the longest winless streak (they went 0-22-1 before beating the Hershey Bears on March 26th)
