Pittsburgh Penguins superstar center Evgeni Malkin has been named the NHL’s second star of the week for the February 6-12 segment.

Malkin began the week by recording an assist in a shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday before his four-assist, five-point night against the Winnipeg Jets in the team’s 8-5 win on Saturday. Yesterday, Malkin recorded two goals and hit the post with 0.9 seconds left, bringing his week total to three goals and five assists for 8 points and a plus-six rating in just three games.

Saturday marked Malkin’s third five-point outing in less than two months. Malkin now leads the league in points by seven over Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos and Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux, and his 32 goals are second only to Stamkos’s 37. Malkin has played in six less games than Stamkos and three less than Giroux.

Malkin was named the NHL’s third star for the weeks of December 19 and January 16, and the first star for January 23. He was also the NHL’s star of the month in December and second star for January.

Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith and St. Louis Blues forward David Perron were named the NHL’s first and third stars of this week, respectively.
