Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was named the National Hockey League’s third star of the April 2 – April 8 week.

Crosby recorded three goals and six points in three games last week.

He scored twice and added an assist in the Penguins’ 5-3 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Sid had an assist in the team’s 5-2 win over the New York Rangers before scoring and adding an assist in Saturday’s playoff preview against the Philadelphia Flyers.

He is currently on a five-game point streak over which he’s recorded four goals and 12 points.

Sid finished the regular season with eight goals and 37 points in just 22 games, including 25 points in his 14 games since the second injury comeback. His 1.68 points per game on the year led the NHL.

He was on pace for 30 goals and 138 points in an 82-game regular season.

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos, who finished the year with 10 goals in his final nine games, was named the league’s second star of the week, while Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith was first.

The Penguins meet the Philadelphia Flyers in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The series begins Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the CONSOL Energy Center.

The Penguins also re-assigned Steve MacIntyre to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton today.
