Steelers fans lately must feel like reading the sports page is like reading the police blotter. Ben Roethlisberger, Santonio Holmes. You’ve got to wonder if Mike Tomlin has lost control of this club.

There could be some serious issues facing the Steelers this offseason. If Big Ben gets charged or indicted, the league could suspend him. And where does that leave the Steelers at the quarterback situation? Bleak. Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon and trying to re-sign free agent 37 year old Charlie Batch. That is not an equation to get back to the Super Bowl.

A trade for Eagles quarterback around the draft is out of the question as the Steelers conservative ownership will not pull off that trade. But one trade out there, could be a trade to return Byron Leftwich from the 2008 Super Bowl team from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Leftwich went on IR this past season but is expendable in Tampa with last year’s first round pick, Josh Freeman.

The Steelers would be wise to pull off a trade for Leftwich.
