In all my years of writing, and being an active part of various online communities, I’ve had the pleasure of coming across not only a multitude of different personalities and fan bases, but also the honor of meeting many of the men and women who have served this wonderful country of ours. Today, Steelers Chronicle is going to cast aside all team allegiances and honor some of my friends.

The wonderful folks over at Sports Jabber count a number of veterans among their members, and I’m proud to call them my friends.

Jimmie, the world’s biggest Browns fan, and one of Pittsburgh’s best chefs, is a man I’m proud to call a friend.

BFISA, a loyal San Diego Chargers fan, and one of the most soft spoken, humble men you’ll meet.

Roatancharlie loves his Miami Dolphins, and is living the good life in Roatan Bay.

Reveryroadie loves wearing his New York Giants fandom on his sleeve, and is a great guy to joke around with.

Mrtxstar, the Dallas Cowboys biggest fan, and a man that I’ve grown to respect because of his unwavering dedication to both his country and his football team.

Rondo, like Tex, is a Cowboys fan that’s great to joke around with, and has been involved in some of the more intelligent debates I’ve been a part of.

NOVASteelers is on Steeler Addicts as well as Sports Jabber, and is a Marine to the core.

Over on SteelerAddicts, not only do they count veterans among them, but they’re also working on setting up some charity event with the Wounded Warriors foundation, and Steelers Chronicle is happily going to be participating in that.

Many of my family have served this country, and I’m proud of each and everyone of them. From my cousin Adam, to my late grandfather Ernest Downard, these men are all true heroes, and they deserve to be honored.

A veteran – whether active duty, retired, or reserve- is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The Government of the United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including my life’.

From Steelers Chronicle and the entire Rant Sports network, we wish you a happy, safe, and joyous Memorial Day. We hope you’ll take  a moment to remember your defenders, who can’t be with their families today, and the ones who will never see their families again.

You can find Steelers Chronicle on Facebook & Twitter.
