Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins Rivalry Will Struggle to Live Up To Magic-Bird Comparison

Jabari Parker

Enjoyed the post below and the Larry Bird and Magic Johnson comparison between Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins is one that I’ll admit to have pondered on before. Really hope it goes down like that, but it is more likely to play out in a LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony type of way where the two starts play on different teams throughout their career. They are both loyal guys, but they both also have championship aspirations so if they do not land on a pro team that is ready to contend (more than likely), then they would be slogging it away for four years with no real title shot and just wait it out for free agency. Also the Bird-Johnson rivalry was so unique because it started in college when they played each other in the national championship game. The hatred started there, and then it built up to global proportions down the line when titles were at stake.

Nobody is hoping more than me than Parker and Wiggins developing one of the best basketball rivalries of all time, but you never know what will happen. Life is short, and everything can change in a moment. Just ask Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. Did we not long ago think that was going to be a great basketball rivalry. I certainly did, but then life just happens.

Parker and Wiggins were the last two Gatorade high school basketball players of the year, and watching their rivalry develop will be one of the great joys of covering basketball in the coming year.
