When Will Seth Rollins Cash In His Money In the Bank Contract?

Seth Rollins has been one of the fastest rising stars in WWE over the past few months, and with the Money In the Bank contract in his possession, he appears poised to become a future WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

When Rollins will cash in his contract, and against whom, remains a question mark, however. As stipulated, Rollins can cash in his title match contract at any time over a one-year period, which allows him to pick an opportunistic situation when the champion is vulnerable.

With Rollins becoming one of the company’s top villains, he almost certainly will not cash in against another heel. Rather, he will likely wait until a fan favorite becomes champion.

That opportunity may not come anytime soon, though, as Brock Lesnar could conceivably continue his title reign until WrestleMania 31 in April. WWE has put considerable effort into building Lesnar as a dominant, nearly unbeatable competitor that it would seem illogical to reverse that trend by having him lose his championship within just a few months.

Expect Lesnar to retain his championship whenever he’s tested between now and April, while Rollins engages in other feuds, including his current storyline with Dean Ambrose and John Cena.

If Lesnar does finally taste defeat at WrestleMania, many people expect Roman Reigns to be the man who scores the victory. Reigns, much like Rollins, had been skyrocketing to main-event status since the breakup of The Shield. A severe injury has temporarily derailed those plans, though, and Reigns may not be able to return to the ring until 2015.

Still, if he proves to be back to full health, Reigns will likely be the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion. This provides Rollins the perfect opponent to cash in his briefcase against. They have extensive history, as they were united for nearly two years in the Shield before Rollins proverbially stabbed Reigns and Ambrose in the back. Ironically, Reigns sustained his injury just days before a scheduled match against Rollins.

Rollins taking the championship from Reigns will allow both individuals to reignite that feud, while also elevating both individuals to main-event caliber in a battle over the gold.

If WWE wants to make this potential storyline even more special, though, Rollins could do something unprecedented: cash in his contract against Reigns at WrestleMania. If Reigns does indeed face and ultimately defeat Lesnar at WrestleMania, it will likely come as part of the final match of the night.

Although Reigns has been very popular, some fans already have grown tired of him and have begun to favor other stars, such as Ambrose or Dolph Ziggler. Many of the fans question Reigns’ verbal abilities and note that he is not ready to become the company’s flag bearer.

If he wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the biggest stage only to lose it to an opportunistic rival seconds later, it would create a plot twist not seen at WrestleMania since Stone Cold Steve Austin‘s heel turn against The Rock nearly 15 years ago.

Since the Money In the Bank concept was introduced, the briefcase has been cashed in during Raw, Smackdown and an array of pay-per-views. Never has it been cashed in at WrestleMania, though, and especially not following the outcome of the main event.

If the WWE is ready to go all-in on Reigns, and particularly Rollins, this could be an interesting option. Although Reigns would suffer a temporary setback by losing the title within seconds, both he and Rollins would be forever immortalized for a shocking and unforgettable WrestleMania moment.
