John Cena May Lose His Title Shot At WWE TLC 2014

Cena Sucks

With Brock Lesnar prepared to return on the Dec. 15 episode of Monday Night RAW, he will be jumping back into the fray right as the official road to the Royal Rumble begins. The night before at the TLC pay-per-view event, we could see John Cena lose the WWE World Heavyweight Championship shot he earned by defeating Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell back in October.

The timing for Lesnar’s return could not be more perfect. Let’s look at it from the perspective that Cena finds his way through a table thanks to the astute directions provided by one Seth Rollins. Cena is no longer the No. 1 contender and there is no one primed to challenge Lesnar for his title. The first thing that comes to my mind is that means we would be treated to a guaranteed fantastic promo from Paul Heyman to open RAW. He gloats that his client is so frightening that Cena threw his match against Rollins because he realized that he cannot beat the beast.

Rollins would of course be offended by such a remark, but Cena would as well. And since the champ is on TV so infrequently, a host of other men want their voices heard as well. Where does that lead?

To a tournament, of course!

The WWE World Heavyweight Championship has been out of the spotlight for months. A tournament featuring a group of men vying for a chance to meet the champ at the Royal Rumble PPV immediately pushes that belt not only back into the forefront but also gives WWE the opportunity to create some new stars, even if they don’t win the shot at Lesnar.

In lieu of a tournament, they could just name a new No. 1 contender or have a multi-man match that gives a few guys a chance all in one night.

Who knows what will happen? It would be nice for Rollins to get back some of his momentum after captaining the losing team at Survivor Series, and Cena actually losing the match would be a huge shocker. It would be an even bigger shocker for him to lose the match and not end up getting his shot back somehow. Cena is 1-3 at TLC, with his only victory coming over Wade Barrett in 2010’s infamous chairs match that both literally and figuratively buried The Nexus.

Sheamus won his first WWE Title all the way back at TLC 2009 by defeating Cena in a Tables Match. If Rollins wins, I wouldn’t expect it to be pegged as a fluke like it was with the Celtic Warrior, as they didn’t appear to be sold on Sheamus at the time (he was fresh from the ECW brand). But Rollins has been on the main roster for two years now and being pegged as the future is not just a TV catchphrase. They think very highly of him, which I never expected would be the case, but it’s happening and I’m thrilled.

Will Rollins beat Cena and spoil his chance to win back the title again? Maybe not, but it would be a very welcome, unexpected move by WWE. It may help shake things up a bit as Vince McMahon is so fond of saying.
