WWE Rumors: Roman Reigns Will Not Win Royal Rumble

As WrestleMania season draws ever closer, fear is apparently in the air regarding the original plan to have Roman Reigns win the Royal Rumble and go on to defeat Brock Lesnar to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in Santa Clara.

Reportedly, top WWE officials are aware that the fan backlash at the 2014 Royal Rumble, when Batista won the WrestleMania title shot, may be replicated in 2015 and directed at Reigns. Instead of Daniel Bryan, this time it would be with the crowd rallying in favor of the other two hottest faces going today: Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler.

If the WWE does decide that Reigns isn’t the best way to go, you can certainly expect him to be one of the last men remaining in the match. The final four may even be Ziggler, Ambrose, Reigns and Seth Rollins with Reigns being last eliminated by either Ziggler or Ambrose.

That said, it would be tough, at least at this point in time, to imagine putting either Ziggler or Ambrose in the ring with Brock Lesnar. There are about three months until the big event happens, and there is a strong need for some very quick repairs to their reputation for either man to look like a serious threat. Dean is a weird guy who can get hardcore and Ziggler has a lot of heart and won’t give up. Neither, however, have a history of getting the job done in any significant manner as a singles competitor.

Where is the precedent that would lend credibility toward either of them defeating one of the most protected superstars of all time in Brock Lesnar?

Another triple threat match to close WrestleMania would be ill-advised. A four-way match would be even worse. If the intention is to have a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion walk out of Levi’s Stadium in April, it has to be done in a one-on-one contest with the new champion pinning Lesnar clean in the middle of the ring.

I’ve never been on the bandwagon of those behind the concept of Reigns being the killer of the Beast. I like Reigns a great deal and think he has a very bright future. Unlike for Ziggler, Rollins and Ambrose, however, the future simply is not now.
