Tomorrow is the NFL’s trade deadline and the Green Bay Packers have to execute a trade for a running back if they harbor any aspirations of advancing to the post-season it is imperative that the Green Bay Packers execute a trade for a productive running back. Of course the most logical option for the Packers would have been to acquire Marshawn Lynch from the Bills, but Lynch is now in Seattle and there is no sense in re-hashing that option.
Brandon Jackson received the bulk of the carries for the Packers yesterday and only managed to total 53 yards on 12 carries.
DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers- A trade for Williams makes the most logical sense for the Packers and the Panthers. The Carolina Panthers have said that Williams is not available, but NFL teams lie. Williams is in the final year of his contract and will most likely sign with another team as a free agent next season, so why not trade him and get something of value for Williams now. Carolina is playing for the number one overall draft pick in 2011 so why not accumulate more draft picks for a team with a lot of needs.
Marion Barber, Dallas Cowboys- The Dallas Cowboys are struggling and Barber’s name was brought up in the off-season in possible trade rumors. With the Cowboys record at 1-4 and a trip to the playoffs looking like a longshot now, why not move Barber. Felix Jones is becoming more involved in the Cowboy’s offense. Barber has 5 years remaining on his contract.
Michael Bush, Oakland Raiders- PFT.com cited sources yesterday that claim every player on the Oakland Raiders roster is available for trade. Why not trade for Michael Bush? Bush will be a free agent in 2011 and is a much more talented running back than Brandon Jackson.
If the Packers do not execute a trade for another running back, 2010 might just be a wasted season.
