When the St Louis Rams drafted Sam Bradford first overall in the 2010 NFL Draft, they had high expectations for the Oklahoma quarterback. Prior to the start of the regular season, it was widely believed that A.J. Feeley would start the season for the Rams and Bradford would be named the starter at some point in the season. An injury to Feeley in the pre-season opened the door for usher in the Bradford era and the Rams aren’t looking back. The St. Louis Rams quarterback now has to hold the lead in the NFL Offensive rookie of the year race over fellow rookies Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best, Dallas Cowboy’s WR Dez Bryant, and San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews.

St Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford- Bradford has led the Rams to three wins in the young season despite the team having established receivers. Bradford has complete 133 passes while attempting 234 for 1357 yards. Bradford has thrown seven touchdowns and eight interceptions for a 69.3 passer rating.

Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best- Best is the newest offensive weapons for a Lions team which is second in scoring in the NFC despite the absence of Matthew Stafford under center. Jahvid Best has proved to be an elusive back catching the ball as well as a solid runner carrying the ball. Best has 80 rushing attempts for 257 yards and four touchdowns. Best also has 30 receptions for 285 yards and a score.

San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews- There were high expectations surrounding Mathews this season after the Chargers moved up in the first round to draft the Fresno State product. San Diego head coach Norv Turner had said prior to the start of the season that the Chargers were going to get the ball to Mathews about 300 times this season. That sort of production has yet to be seen out of Mathews yet. He has carried the ball 20 or more times only once this season and does not have a hundred yard game. All the blame can’t be placed solely on Mathews. The Chargers have been playing from behind a lot so far this season and have abandoned the run at times. Mathews has 282 yards on 55 carries and a score.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant- Bryant missed all of the Cowboys preseason while he was dealing with a high ankle sprain. The effects of his injury appear to be lingering. Bryant has only 18 receptions for 211 yards and a score. Bryant has added a punt return for a touchdown as well.

Other rookies to watch-

WR Mike Williams Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Williams has quickly established a rapport with Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman. Williams has 23 receptions for 283 yards and three scores.

QB Colt McCoy Cleveland Browns. McCoy made his first start in Pittsburgh last weekend against the Steelers. Facing a menacing defense, McCoy was solid. He complete 23 of 33 passes for 281 yards and a score. Even when Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace return from their high ankle sprains, I see no reason to bench McCoy. Cleveland isn’t going anywhere this season, why not see what McCoy has for the future.
