Lambeau Field to Allow Packers Fans to Bring Guns to Games Next Season?

There could be an interesting debate brewing up over the next couple of months involving the Green Bay Packers and Lambeau Field thanks to a new concealed carry legislation in the state of Wisconsin.

Kristin Crowley of WLUK-TV in Wisconsin discussed on Wednesday how the state is expected to allow concealed carry–which means adults would be allowed to bring handguns into public buildings as long as they have permits and the proper training. Of course, this is now causing a controversy on whether or now this new legislation applies to Lambeau Field.

From Crowley’s article:

“I don’t know enough about Wisconsin’s specific law to know if the stadiums are exempt or not or can be exempt,” said Stadium district Executive Director, Pat Webb.

The bill prohibits concealed carry in buildings owned or leased by the state… says that language just adds to the confusion.

“The building itself is a government owned building, but whether it’s considered a government building for the definitions of any kind of law, I don’t know that at this point in time,” said Webb.

“Right now we’re dissecting the law. We are reading it. We’re going to consult with the city’s attorneys, with the Packers organization,” said Green Bay Police Captain Paul Ebel.

Crowley indicates how the NFL bans guns from all stadiums (which is obviously a smart decision)–but there will be a meeting next month to discuss what to do with concealed carry and Lambeau Field. The new law is expected to go into effect in October or November–right in the middle of football season.

Why is this news? What does every other state with a stadium do? Don’t reinvent the wheel here people. Everywhere I have ever been (never been to Wisconsin) has a ruling that permit or not, you can’t carry a firearm anywhere where signs are posted prohibiting firearms. The only exemptions would be for law enforcement personnel in the course of their duties.

Why worry anyway? Don’t think people are already bringing weapons into games, firearms included. Don’t be so naive.

Doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me considering what happened to the SF Giants fan at Dodger stadium. Some of these thugs may think twice if they think someone may be carrying protection.
