NFL Could Expand to 34 Teams
Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that if Los Angeles was awarded an NFL franchise that the league would then expand to a total of 34 teams.

If L.A. is awarded a franchise that would make the total number of teams 33 and that’s something that Goodell doesn’t want.

Speaking to Bob Costas on “Costas Live” last night Goodell talked about expansion and said that they don’t want to move any of our NFL teams but if they did create a new franchise in L.A they would have to add another to avoid an uneven number of teams.

An odd number teams would cause scheduling problems with one team being off each week and one division having five teams.

They are considering bringing back an NFL team to LA and it has been rumored that the stadium proposals would be able to hold two teams like they have in NY with the Jets and Giants both playing at Met Life stadium.

While he did talk to Costas about an LA franchise, during his annual pre-Super Bowl news conference he said that the NFL was not considering expansion nor did it have any immediate plans to do so.

Still you have to wonder if these stadium proposals are being completed and worked on that a franchise would return to L.A. sooner rather than later.
