Former New Orleans Saints Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams Releases Bounty Statement
Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

With Bountygate now dominating NFL headlines, former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has apologized for the bounty practice.  However, this is certainly a case of too little, too late.

I expect the NFL to come down harshly on every involved.  Player fines and suspensions, fines for GM Mickey Loomis, Williams, and head coach Sean Payton and maybe more.  The NFL is stressing safety and then things like this happen.

Players complain the NFL doesn’t care about them and things like this happen.  It’s hypocritical.  I expect swift punishment and a stop to bounty practices in the NFL, unless offenders want to face serious suspensions.

Statement below:

“I want to express my sincere regret and apology to the NFL, Mr. Benson, and the New Orleans Saints fans for my participation in the ‘pay for performance’ program while I was with the Saints. It was a terrible mistake, and we knew it was wrong while we were doing it. Instead of getting caught up in it, I should have stopped it. I take full responsibility for my role. I am truly sorry. I have learned a hard lesson and I guarantee that I will never participate in or allow this kind of activity to happen again.”

Thanks to NOLA.com for the statement.
