Over the last few years my writing has been expanding and with it has come traditions. Apart of my usual weekly updates are a feature I call news and notes. It’s simply information about the latest news and notes regarding the Seahawks. That being said this week the Seahawks players voted on team captains, had setbacks with injuries and had one rookie learn his boundaries.

Trufant, Jackson, Washington and Robinson named team captains.

Seattle named their four team captains this week as voted on by the players. The defensive captain is cornerback Marcus Trufant entering his ninth season in the NFL. Starting quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is the captain on offense which comes as no surprise. Special teams co-captains are Michael Robinson and Leon Washington.

All four captains are first-timers in Seattle. Trufant earns his first after eight seasons in Seattle while Jackson, Robinson and Washington all earn their first with less that two years with the team.

Sydney Rice and Robert Gallery still not practicing

The two biggest acquisitions this offseason could miss the start of the regular season due to separate injuries. Sydney Rice continues to nurse a shoulder injury while Robert Gallery remains out with a sprained knee. Pete Carroll said both are making progress but are still uncertain for Sunday.

“He’s (Gallery)  running today. Sidney will not practice today. Both those guys are making good progress, and we’ll just go day-to-day and figure out what that means at the end of the week.”

While Gallery sits rookie right tackle James Carpenter, who hasn’t had a good start, has moved to left guard this week and could start there if Gallery can’t go.

Rookie wide receiver Ricardo Lockette learning his boundaries.

The tradition of rookie hazing in the NFL is always a fun sight to see. From carrying pads to paying for dinner rookie’s do it all. Seahawks rookie wide receiver Ricardo Lockette is getting a unique taste of his limitations as a rookie.

Cornerback Roy Lewis has a locker next to Lockette and wanted to make clear the boundaries between a veteran and a rookie. Needless to say a picture is worth a thousand words.
