SEATTLE (WA)– The injuries keep adding up for the Seattle Seahawks as the news came out after today’s game that wide receiver Mike Williams suffered a broken ankle. Williams, who is coming off a breakout 2010 season has been a non-factor with Tarvaris Jackson under center.

Williams suffered the injury during the third quarter against Chicago Sunday which likely will end his season given there are two games remaining. Before suffering the injury Williams recorded two receptions for 31 yards, with four targets in the game. The injury doesn’t impact Seattle drastically given the quality of depth the Seahawks have at wide receiver.

Golden Tate has been seeing an increased role with Sidney Rice already out. Deon Butler is back and fully healthy, Ben Obomanu and Doug Baldwin have also been moved up the depth chart with their performance so far this season. Seattle also has tight end Zach Miller, Cameron Morrah and Marshawn Lynch as receiving options.

The injury puts an end to a disappointing 2011 season for Williams who had an impressive 2010 season with 65 receptions, 751 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games. Before last season Williams was tattooed with the bust label after not living up to his top 10 selection in 2005 NFL draft.

Williams finishes the season with 16 receptions for 205 yards and one touchdown in 11 games. Seattle signed Williams to a three year, $11.2 million dollar contract last offseason.

While some consider Williams to be a cut candidate several players, and head coach Pete Carroll have suggested otherwise. Undrafted rookie standout Doug Baldwin said that Williams helped him figure out what St. Louis was doing defensively that allowed him to have success in the second half.

Williams and Tarvaris Jackson never have been on the same page and Jackson doesn’t fit with what Williams is, a possession wide receiver. Matt Hasselbeck, a season veteran who knows all the throws worked better with Williams than Jackson has.
