Breaking News: Chicharito Signs Man U Extension
Sorry Real Madrid fans, but Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is not going to be in your match kit anytime soon. Hernandez’s agent announced that the Mexican striker has agreed to a 5-year extension with Manchester United.
Eduardo Hernandez, Javier’s representative told ESPN Deportes that “We have renegotiated Javier’s contract and he is now committed for five years with Manchester United.”
Hernandez was signed for 6 million pounds from Guadalajara in Mexico and became an instant success as a Red Devil. Seen as a long-term project Hernandez instead scored 18 minutes into his debut and notched 13 goals on the season.
Real Madrid had been rumored in a 30 million pound swoop for Hernandez and were set to offer him 125,000 pounds a week in wages. No financial details have been released on his new United contract, but you can be sure it is a huge increase on his current 25,000-a-week deal.
Hernandez has started slow this season, perhaps due to fatigue combining his time with United and extensive use for the Mexican national team, who he led to a Gold Cup title with 7 goals this summer.
Hernandez’s new contract shows United’s continued commitment to youth. Midfielder Tom Cleverley recently signed a new contract and one has been offered to striker Danny Welbeck.
