Soccer: Thomas Vermaelen Re-Up’s With Arsenal

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has extended his contract long term with the London club.

Vermaelen’s contract was due to expire in 2013, but the Belgian National Team captain has pledged his future to the Gunners. The new deal win run four years. Financial terms have yet to be disclosed.

Vermaelen came over the the EPL from Ajax in 2009 for 10 million euros and was an instant success, scoring on his debut. He finished with 8 goals in 45 appearances.

However he has rarely appeared since because of numerous injuries. He suffered an Achilles injury that forced him to miss much of 2010-2011 and is currently out with an ankle injury.
