BREAKING: Tottenham Versus Bolton Postponed After Fabrice Muamba Collapses On Pitch
Some things should never be seen on a soccer pitch.
Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed 41 minutes into an FA Cup quarter-final tie with Tottenham Hotspur.
An eerie silence befell White Hart Lane as paramedics ran to the player’s aid. CPR and a defibrillator were used on the fallen midfielder in attempts to revive him while referee Howard Webb went ahead with cancelling the fixture.
Some fans were moved to tears and many of the players were visibly shocked. Muamba was rushed to hospital while fans clapped and chanted his name. His manager Owen Coyle -whose first instinct was to make for the pitch after Muamba collapsed -and club captain Kevin Davies were rumored to have gotten in the ambulance with their friend.
A Twitter campaign to #PrayForMuamba has already started up. Many will of course have flashbacks of the tragic event were Cameroon midfielder Marc Vivien-Foe collapsed and died on the pitch in 2003, however, the global soccer community will unite in hoping Muamba makes a full recovery whilst sending best wishes to his loved ones.
As of 3:45 am CT, he is currently in a heart attack ward of the hospital and is critical condition.
