Toulouse’s Martin Braithwaite A New Ligue 1 Star?

France‘s Ligue 1 may have found a new upcoming star in Martin Braithwaite of Toulouse. The midfielder, who is just 22 stood out as the best performer during Toulouse’s fierce 1-1 draw with Marseille on Saturday.

At such a young age, his move from Danish football to a more recognized European League has come at a good time. Over the past year, Toulouse have lost some of their strongest midfielders, so now Braithwaite has the chance for game time and it seems he is already making a name for himself.

His performance vs. Marseille was fantastic. It was a physical game that needed players with heat and for Toulouse, the ability to perform at both ends of the field. Braithwaite looked not just strong and determined defensively, but he also had plenty of skill and creativity that was perhaps unexpected.

He stood out amongst some high quality players and made various internationals look very average. In fact, Braithwaite recently became an International for his nation, Denmark and recently scored the second of their three goals vs. Poland.

It was reported that during the match between the two clubs from the South of France (where Marseille snatched a late goal to save a point), that Arsenal‘s scout Gilles Grimandi was in attendance casting an eye over the various players on show. Now that could stretch from the likes of Serge Aurier to Jordan Ayew. But for Braithwaite, he can take confidence that he surely would have caught Grimandi’s eye during the match after a very encouraging performance.

He still is young and growing, but it’s been a fine start to an important season for the young Dane.
