Is Leighton Baines On His Way To Manchester United?
Everton and England left-back Leighton Baines could change his scenery on January.
The defender has been a longtime target for Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson was managing the Red Devils, but the Toffees never accepted the offers as he’s a symbol at Goodison Park. However, now that his former boss David Moyes is managing at Old Trafford, things could change. There are several reports that indicate that the defender is close to joining the current Premier League champions as soon as the transfer market opens in January.
There hasn’t been any confirmation regarding the move, but it would be a great signing for Manchester United if they are able to complete it.
Their only reliable option at the left side of the defense is Patrice Evra and with the Frenchman aging quickly, there is no suitable replacement inside the team. Fabio hasn’t progressed as expected and Alexander Buttner has failed to meet expectations every time he has been given a chance. So in that regard, it makes sense to land Baines.
The Englishman is considered one of the best left-backs in Europe, and his presence would add another attacking threat to the team. He’s able to push forward and cross the ball accurately and he has a decent long-range shot that would add depth to the team’s scoring options.
The Red Devils shouldn’t waste time if they have the chance to land Baines. He would be a great addition to an already strong defensive line that is in need of some help in the flanks this season.
