HAPPY HOCKEY DAY IN AMERICA!!!

The Blues played a near perfect game against the struggling Wild team as they blew by them with a score of 4-0.  Elliot had to make a whopping 13 saves for his 6th shutout and the team didn’t allow the Wild to get too many chances by blocking shots and cleaning the garbage in front of Elliot.  Jackman held a 150 game scoreless streak, which was the longest active, but was able to snap that streak blasting a shot past Harding.  Reaves had the first goal of the game and also collecting his first of the season.  McDonald is looking better and better and put up another goal. Sobotka finished it off in the 3rd and the team held the shutout for Elliot. Perron continues to have the hot hand as he now holds a 7 game point streak after assisting on Sobotka’s goal.

The Blues will make a trip to the windy city to meet the Hawks at the United Center where the Hawks have scored 10 goals in the last 2 games coming into this game with a 2 game win streak.  As you may remember these Hawks went on a 9 game losing streak and against a dominant Rangers team, scored 4 goals in the 1st period to end their skid.  They then met the Blue Jackets yesterday and after the BJ’s scored the first goal, the Hawks stormed back with 6 unanswered goals.  With as much firepower as the Hawks team has, its hard to imagine they went on that lonnnggg 9 game losing streak, but they have come back in form and their top players are on a roll now.  The Blues will need another near perfect game against the Hawks.  Halak did not travel to Chicago so Bishop will be with the team. No word yet on who will be starting and will be sure to update when the word is out.  Do the Blues really want to showcase Bishop on such a big game? Definitely a high risk move which can extremely help or hurt his trade value.

I have been mentioning Bishop’s name in some rumor posts before because of the Blues goaltending situation this year.  He deserves a strong shot at the NHL level, but behind Halak and Elliot, that may be too much to expect.  The flyers are on the other end trying to make their goalie situation better.  Bryz and Bob played awful games yesterday and raised some big questions.  I have heard Philly may have interest in Bishop, but may depend if they can land the bigger names, such as Nabokov or Harding.  It remains a question what Philly can give the Blues in exchange for Bishop.  Another bottom 6 forward plus a draft pick seems reasonable, but he Flyers are running out of draft picks after trading away two 2nd rd picks for Grossman and Kubina.  Speaking of Kubina, take him out of the picture as he is off the market for now.  Will the Blues make a trade soon?  Armstrong shouldn’t feel any pressure to make a trade unless he sees a deal which cant be passed up.

UPDATE: Seems as Elliot will get the start
