With today being the official announcement of Jeff Fisher’s hiring by the St. Louis Rams as he becomes the club’s new head coach, the process of putting together a coaching staff as well as finding an agreeable general manager will likely kick into high gear. New Orleans Saints’ defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was with Fisher during his time with the Tennessee Titans, has already defected and joined the Rams coaching staff.

Plenty of rumors have been floated around about the team bringing in former New York Jets’ offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to perform the same duties, but not so fast on that assumption. The Rams will be interviewing former Oakland Raiders’ head coach Hue Jackson for that same position today which suggests that the offensive coordinator job is far from settled.

Now that Fisher will be in house on a regular basis, his input will be readily available to the franchise which will likely greatly expedite the process of assembling a staff. With the coach’s deal being worth in the neighborhood of $7 million annually for the next five years, one would hope that Fisher can get his people in place quickly so the Rams can begin retooling immediately.

Several reports have also mentioned that Fisher could be filling his staff on the fly with his Tennessee connections by bringing Dave McGinnis, a senior assistant with the Titans, to St. Louis to be his assistant head coach.

The word is still mum on who may be the GM under a Fisher run establishment, but it likely won’t take long to get a good idea on who has made the short list of potential candidates.
