Where is Mike Ditka when you need him? The St. Louis Rams certainly could use him.

After Robert Griffin III’s superhuman performance at the NFL combine, it’s St. Louis – not the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins or Miami Dolphins – that has become his biggest fan.

With ESPN reporting that the Rams will trade the No. 2 pick in the 2012, we’re about to find out how well the Rams front office can play poker. Is Phil Helmuth available as a consultant?

If running back Ricky Williams was worth the New Orleans Saints’ entire draft to the Washington Redskins in 1999, then let’s start the bidding for RG III at two years’ worth of draft picks!

Obviously with the Browns able to offer two first-round picks, including the No. 4, the Rams would be guaranteed of landing either USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil or Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon.

Luckily for the Rams, the Washington Redskins, who own the No. 6 pick, also are a suitor, and owner Daniel Snyder has been known to overpay just a tad to get what he wants.

New St. Louis general manager Les Snead must play Snyder’s generosity against the Browns’ resources. The Dolphins, depending on how close they think they are to putting it all together, may have a say in the matter.

The Giants traded the No. 4 pick (Phillip Rivers) and a third-round pick in 2004, along with a first- and fifth-rounder in 2005, to the San Diego Chargers for Eli Manning. Manning’s only won two Super Bowls.

Snead can use that factoid when he starts wheeling and dealing. So while it’s unfortunate that Ditka isn’t around, Snead may not need him. St. Louis might fill a lot of holes very quickly if Snead plays his cards right.

The Rams are now on the clock. Time to raise the stakes.
