Roster cuts are a part of the NFL landscape and the St. Louis Rams will have to let go of several players by 8pm CT to trim their roster to 53 players. Just because the team has to cut some guys doesn’t mean they won’t be looking to add other potential cast-offs if necessary. The Rams’ final roster is far from set at this point.

General manager Les Snead appeared on the broadcast of the club’s preseason finale and said that the team is taking a similar strategy to the draft when it comes to roster cuts. The Rams have a value board made up of bubble players around the league who they believe could greatly aid their team in the coming season should they get the axe.

There are three positions in particular where depth could be an issue for the Rams in the coming season. The defensive tackle spot has been a weakness for years and there can never be too much depth along the line of scrimmage. The same can be said for offensive tackle where the Rams are very thin after dealing Jason Smith earlier in the week. Also the linebacker spot could use another body or two, as it was considered one of the club’s biggest weaknesses coming into the year.

When the majority of guys playing third string are undrafted free agents with zero NFL experience, the idea of adding another veteran or two becomes awfully appealing. The Rams are the league’s youngest team and having a calming influence of players who have been there, done that can be the most valuable asset there is.

So even though the final roster has yet to be determined, don’t be surprised if getting to that equation comes with a few more additions to go along with the assumed subtractions. Head Coach Jeff Fisher and GM Snead are building this St Louis Rams team the right way and that will start to show up on the field sooner rather than later.
