Three well-known Texas names will throw out the first pitches at the three World Series games at the Ballpark in Arlington this weekend. The Texas Rangers will host the St. Louis Cardinals in Games 3, 4 and 5 of the Fall Classic on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki will throw the first pitch in Game 3; former United States president, Texas governor and Rangers owner George W. Bush will do the honors for Game 4; and Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach will make the ceremonial toss for Game 5.

Nowitzki’s status was questionable due to his nationality; he is a German native. However, the correct decision was made to let him make the first pitch anyway. Nowitzki is just as American as anybody in the Ballpark this weekend. He brought the Dallas Mavericks their first NBA title in June and has been an avid supporter of all Dallas-Fort Worth sports teams throughout his 13-year career. He’s as big of a Rangers, Cowboys and Dallas Stars fan as anyone else. He deserves to throw that first pitch and all others he’s asked to in the future.

Bush served as president of our great nation from 2000-2008 after governing our great state for years before. He’s a huge Rangers fan as he once owned part of the team and still lives on a ranch in Texas today. Bush is also a close friend with current Rangers owner Nolan Ryan, so his throwing the first pitch in Game 4 comes as no surprise.

Staubach is perhaps the most legendary player on the NFL’s most legendary team. He brought the Cowboys the team’s first two Super Bowl titles and is also a valuable contributor to the Dallas Fort-Worth community. A class act and a class player, Staubach is extremely deserving of throwing the first pitch before Game 5 of the World Series. With an arm like his, Staubach will probably throw a strike.
