I know how superstitious baseball fans can be, so before I get Texas Rangers fans riled up, don’t worry; I am knocking on wood as I write this.

Let me again preface this by saying it’s early. Very early.

Nevertheless, the Texas Rangers are unbelievably hot right now.

With a 12-2 record (the two losses came in late innings), the Rangers currently hold the best record in all of baseball.

Last season, after capturing their second consecutive American League title, the Rangers ended the year with what could be considered one of the most heartbreaking losses in the history of American sports, failing to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 7 of the World Series after being one strike away from winning it all–not once, but twice.

The Rangers, however, appear to have put the loss behind them and it seems that they have begun this season with something to prove, both behind the plate as well as on the mound.

Again, though the season is very, very young, the ball club leads MLB in all of the following offensive categories:

* Team batting average (.313)

* Slugging percentage (.527)

* On-base-percentage (.364)

*Hits (158)

*Homeruns (25)

*Runs (89)

*RBIs (87)

The biggest question heading into the season, however, wasn’t the batting. The Rangers have always been a strong hitting team, and this year is starting off no differently.

It’s the pitching staff that was the biggest question mark heading into the spring.

The Texas pitching staff underwent some major changes in the offseason, including the exit of  last year’s “ace” C.J. Wilson, the addition of unknown but incredibly hyped Yu Darvish, and the move of Neftali Feliz’s from closer to starter.

As a result, there were some major question marks on the mound, but again, though it’s extremely early, the Rangers’ rotation seems to be holding up quite well with a team ERA of 2.50, the 3rd best in the Major Leagues.

Again, it is far too early to get excited about this season; after all there is so much that could happen between now and next fall. However, at least the Rangers play this year has helped the lessen the pain that Rangers fans felt last October. Yet, after coming so close but missing out two seasons in a row, Texas knows that the only thing that will completely take away the heartbreak of the last couple of seasons is a World Series Championship. No less.

The Rangers are trying their best to get back there.

So far, they’re off to one heck of a start.

(KNOCK ON WOOD.)
