Toronto Maple Leafs to Honour Mats Sundin Tonight
Today is CBC’s annual Hockey Day in Canada celebration and what a treat it will be to have the Toronto Maple Leafs honour long time captain Mats Sundin by raising his #13 to the rafters of the Air Canada Centre.
Sundin, a super star player from Sweden, who was drafted by Quebec City Nordiques 1st overall in the 1989 NHL draft. Played the majority of his career with the in Toronto with the Maple Leafs, but ended his career with another Canadian team, where he played 41 games for the Vancouver Canucks.
Sundin had an incredible career that will land him in the Hockey Hall of Fame one day. Sundin recorded 13 seasons of 30-plus goals and 17 seasons when he had 20 goals or more. Sundin was able to do all of this without the support of a high scoring winger playing beside him. Sundin’s best season was all the way back in the 1992/93 season where he recorded 47 goals and 67 assists.
