Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Carl Gunnarsson began an important week in the Maple Leafs schedule on a wrong side of a collision.

Gunnarsson crashed into the corner boards during practise, as he collided with teammate Jay Rosehill. Gunnarsson was slow to get up and favoured his right leg as he slowly made his way to the bench.

“More or less, yeah,” Wilson said. “I mean, it’s a drill we’ve done 15 times this year and, unfortunately, he was slipping going in, and so was Rosie. And they both crashed into the boards.”

“We’re not sure,” Wilson said when asked for an update after practice. “He’s gonna need an image on it, so we’ll wait until we get to Calgary, and then he’ll go and have it checked out. And, hopefully, it’s not too serious.”

The 25 year-old has been a work horse all season, recording 22:11 minutes per game. Gunnarsson continues to be a very self disciplined player as he has only recorded 18 penalty minutes this season.

It is likely that Mike Komisarek will be Gunnarsson’s replacement if he is unable to play when the Maple Leafs face the Calgary Flames on February 14th.
