Donovan McNabb hasn’t played an NFL snap since 2011, but that hasn’t stopped the ex-Philadelphia Eagles‘ quarterback from opening his mouth over the years. In fact, McNabb has put himself in the NFL’s doghouse after constant comments involving race, concussions and other hot-topic issues. However, this time the former All-Pro is opening his mouth about a trendy topic that’s closer to home — Chip Kelly‘s offense.
It’s only been two weeks, but Kelly has the Eagles playing a new brand of football and apparently McNabb doesn’t think it’s going to last very much longer. The idea of running 90 or more offensive plays a game seemed absurd this time last year, but Kelly has managed to make that a reality. Now, before we all jump on Kelly’s bandwagon, let’s keep in mind that Philadelphia is only 1-1 as it dropped a winnable game versus the San Diego Chargers in Week 2.
Had Kelly ran a more clock-management style of offense in the second half then the Eagles could easily be 2-0. Knowing this much, McNabb took aim at Kelly on Thursday and all but predicted for this college-like offense to burnout sooner rather than later. Listen — McNabb is right! The more plays that Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy are forced to run; the chances of the Eagles’ having injuries derail their season skyrockets.
