Washington Redskins’ Running Back Evan Royster is starting to look more and more like the starter.

Running back Roy Helu is having troubles with his left Achilles (Tendonitis). He was out Monday and today, and now it’s looking like he may be sidelined Saturday against the Chicago Bears.

This adds a significant blow to the running game, as Helu is the power, complimenting Royster’s speed when needed. However all is not lost. There is still Tim Hightower, who saw no action last week. But it’s looking like Royster may get the nod for the starting position. The injuries could also put rookie Alfred Morris as his No.2, but there is still a lot of football left to be played.

According to reports, Royster has already made that assumption too.

In order for Hightower to prove his worth, he will need playing time this week against the Bears.  Helu’s setbacks may give him the opportunity he needs to prove himself.

Speaking to the media Helu said, “I wish circumstances were better, but I also know that this is just the hand I’m dealt and I have to do my best with getting fully healthy before I get out there, because I don’t want to carry things over to the next week. Then we end up building things up when going into the season, [and] you don’t want to carry certain things, hindrances, physically into the season.”

Helu is right to work towards 100 percent health.  He was a rock star last season, rushing for more than 600 yards. The Redskins can’t afford not to have Helu somewhere in the conversation.

One Rant to “Washington Redskins’ Evan Royster Should Be ...”

  1. C09F says:

Your statement “Helu is the power, complimenting Royster’s speed when needed” is not remotely accurate. Helu is the faster more dynamic RB while Royster is the move-the-chains RB lacking big play ability.

A mistake like that discredits the entire article. In other words…”COME ON MAN!”
