Amidst some of the most disgusting allegations imaginable, from a school with the stature of Penn State University, comes little light at the end of the tunnel. In realistic terms, there are no winners here, just major losers.

The lives of those young boys will be forever changed. I can not describe the sorrow I feel for them. Obviously, Penn State University loses a great deal of credibility, as does their football staff. I won’t even bother to write the name of the accused, he doesn’t deserve any recognition, but I will call out Joe Paterno. In the last year of his contract, his final days are looming. With this current scandal, I see Paterno retiring by the end of the week, if not sooner. If Jim Tressel stepped down after his players were selling autographs for tattoos, Paterno should already be retired and in a nursing home with the magnitude of this current issue, compared to OSU’s.

The No. 12 Penn State football team returns to action this weekend against No. 19 Nebraska, after PSU’s much maligned bye week. Penn State is undefeated in the Big 10 Conference this season, and 8-1 overall. They currently lead the Leaders Division by two games over No. 16 Wisconsin who is 3-2 in conference play and 7-2 overall. With the current distractions swarming their campus, I don’t see how the Penn State football team will be focused for their upcoming contests.

Three games remain in the Big 10 regular season, before the first-ever Big 10 Conference Title Game in Indianapolis on December 3. Is Penn State mentally equipped enough to handle the three toughest games of their season in the next three weeks? Only time will tell. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were blown out in their next game versus Nebraska on Saturday.

Penn State has the far less favorable schedule the rest of the way. They play Nebraksa this week, followed by an away game at Ohio State and then the season finale at Camp Randall against Wisconsin. The Badgers play at Minnesota this week, followed by another away game at Illinois, alongside the Penn State finale. If the Badgers win their next two games and Penn State loses just one game, that match-up in Madison in the final week will be for all the marbles in the Leaders Division.

Penn State has not shown me enough on the football field this season to give an honest opinion. They don’t have enough star talent to overcome the wealth of talent the next three teams possess. Penn State has seemingly coasted into the top-spot of the division without playing any real competition thus far. How do they handle adversity? Who are their leaders? Who will be their coach? Add a scandal to that murky picture and PSU has a real big mess on their hands. I can see PSU losing their final three games in the regular season, as Wisconsin rumbles to the Leaders Division Title. Regardless, the Badgers’ destiny is not in their own hands “yet,” but they’re close. In a season that saw Wisconsin’s BCS hopes dashed on back-to-back Hail Mary’s, a Big 10 Conference Championship Game appearance would justify a fantastic season and team.

4 Rants to “Penn State Scandal Opens Door For Wisconsin”

    Real classy.

I got a job to do. That is writing and reporting for Rant. What am I supposed to do, ignore one of the biggest scandals in Big 10 Conference history? Sorry man, I have to find some positive from this terrible negative.

  2. badgerfan says:

Agree with you on the fact that PSU is still unchallenged and I do see them losing at least twice more. However, for the Badgers to get to Indy, not only do they have to win out and PSU has to lose twice, but the Buckeyes need to lose once, which is becoming harder to see happen.
