It wasn’t too long ago that 2013 power forward Tony Farmer was being pursued by a number of high-major programs.

However, Farmer was arrested last April on charges of assault and kidnapping against his former girlfriend, Andrea Lane.

A former standout at Garfield Height H.S. (OH), Farmer, 18, was given a three year prison sentence by the judge on Tuesday afternoon, stemming from the counts piled against him.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Farmer’s unfortunate incident took place last spring at Lane’s apartment complex. The report indicates that much of the what happened was caught on videotape. Including kidnapping and assault, Farmer was also cited for robbery and intimidation after sending threatening messages to Lane.

Now facing a prison sentence of three years, Farmer, who would have been a senior this upcoming school year, lost out on a prime opportunity to take his talents to the collegiate level.

During his recruitment, Farmer had received interest from Xavier, Dayton, Michigan State, Iowa, Ohio State, West Virginia, and Illinois, among others.

The news of Farmer’s actions, trial, and sentence are disappointing for a young man who certainly had a bright future on the basketball court.

The judge will review Farmer’s sentence after 180 days.
