Texas Tech Loses Freshman Forward Aaron Ross to Torn ACL
Scott Sewell-US PRESSWIRE

Good news has been hard to come by within the Texas Tech men’s basketball.

The ongoing saga that has developed with head coach Billy Gillispse continues to take center stage. Gillispe was hospitalized late last week and this comes amid reports and allegations of NCAA practice violations and player mistreatment. Athletic director Kirby Hocutt addressed the media on Wednesday evening, saying the school intends to look into the violations and allegations.

In addition, freshman forward Aaron Ross, has reportedly suffered a torn ACL and is expected to miss the entire 2012-13 season.

Ross, an original native of Little Rock, Arkansas, was a former top-100 recruit from the class of 2011. However, after committing and signing with Arkansas, Ross did not qualify academically, eventually winding up at Texas Tech.

At 6-foot-7, Ross was expected to play an intricate role for the Red Raiders this season. The loss comes as just another devastating blow for Texas Tech.

Ross entered Texas Tech as part of a deep freshman class. Wannaah Bail, the crown jewel of the class, has already left the school, lasting only one summer session that could be linked to the way Gillispie ran the program. However, fellow freshman, Josh Gray tweeted his support of Gillispie yesterday afternoon, saying he stands 110% behind his coach. Gray was a one-time Mississippi State commit.

According to some of the ongoing reports against Gillispie, 15 players within the last 18 months since he took over the program have since moved on elsewhere. Gillispie was hired at Texas Tech in March of 2011.
