Report: VCU Coach Shaka Smart Leaning Towards Taking Illinois Job

It’s been less than 12 hours since Bruce Weber has been fired, but the rumor mill around Illinois is heating up. SB Nation is reporting, from Dan Wolken, that VCU head coach Shaka Smart is leaning towards taking the vacant job.
Things could change, however. Smart turned down big money from NC State to stay at VCU for this season. Could a Big 10 job change his mind? He’s made VCU a mid-major powerhouse the last two years and he might not want to give that up.
