2012 NBA Draft Grade: Perry Jones III
Richard Mackson-US PRESSWIRE

Forward Perry Jones III led the Baylor Bears to a dream season last year, as they went all the way to the Elite Eight.  Jones III is a thick body in the paint and the NBA is always in high demand for those type of players.  Below is my full draft report of Jones heading into the 2012 Draft:

2011-12 College Average: 13.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.6 blocks, 0.8 steals

Scoring: B Jones III really worked on his jump shot before the start of the 2011 season, and it certainly showed throughout the course of the year.  He will now enter the draft as one of the premier options to play center at the next level and he is a very underrated jump shooter, but he is still a little bit away from averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Rebounding: A- Jones III projects to be one of the only true centers to come out this year and certainly has the intangibles to play the position.  He is big, physical, and can get off the floor extremely quickly for a guy of his size.  The 2011 Big 12 Player of the Year has a very promising NBA future and can easily average 7-9 boards a game.

Size: A+ PJ3 stands at a massive six-foot-eleven, and the sophomore still is not done growing.  He will need to fill out more because he will not be able to bang around down low at only 235 pounds.  However, his massive frame is making scouts around the NBA take note, potentially causing his draft stock to skyrocket on draft day.

Athleticism: B+ Jones III has outstanding athleticism for a guy who is just under seven-feet tall.  He will be very difficult to post up down low with his size, but he can also out-jump most of the players at his position.  Jones III will need to work on his endurance though, as he only played 30 minutes a game last season for the Bears.

Projection: First Round

NBA Comparison: Atlanta Hawk’s Al Horford
