2012 NFL Mock Draft: Top 5 Texas A&M NFL Prospects
Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

We’re in the middle of the College Football season and it’s time to start looking at prospects for the 2012 NFL Draft. The next draft could be one of the most memorable for Texas A&M, with 7-8 players expecting to be drafted.

That said, let’s look at the top five I have in mind.

5. Sean Porter, LB – Porter has been a monster off the edge for the Aggies this season. He is only a junior and could still return but if he decides to come out he could ride the success of Von Miller on the Broncos all the way to a first round selection. The NFL is a passing league, and teams are always looking for the next great pass rusher.

Porter has 38 tackles, 9.5 for loss, and leads the Big 12 with 7.5 sacks. He has helped lead the Aggies to 26 sacks this year, first in the nation.

4. Cyrus Gray, RB – Gray has been incredible ever since taking over the load when Christine Michael went down. He ripped off nine straight 100 yard games before being slowed down by Oklahoma State.

Despite the fact that the Aggies have leaned more towards Michael this year, Gray takes advantage of his opportunities. He had 1133 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, and has 521 yards and seven touchdowns this year despite splitting carries with Michael.

3. Ryan Tannehill, QB – Ryan Tannehill could be a steal in the 2012 NFL draft with so many high profile guys in front of him. I haven’t heard whether he wants to remain a QB, but there is always the option for him to move to WR if it doesn’t work out.

Still, he’s developed in to one of the premier QBs in college football over the last year, and had his best game of the year against Baylor with 415 yards and six touchdowns.

He still has a few things to work on, but he could be a second round pick next year.

2. Coryell Judie, DB – Judie looked to be developing into a solid NFL corner before hamstring injuries slowed him down this year. Team’s will be wary of that, but Judie has good top end speed and instincts to make it in the NFL. He makes plays on the ball and is a great tackler.

He also has been a terrific return man for the Aggies, adding that to his arsenal.

1. Jeff Fuller, WR - If it weren’t for Alshon Jeffrey and Justin Blackmon, Jeff Fuller would be the prize of the WR class next year. Fuller has been disappointing this year and is starting to remind me a little bit of Terrell Owens. He is a great wide receiver with terrific speed, huge hands, strength, and a big body, but struggles with dropped passes.

In my opinion he’s still first round talent, but he could be slipping in to the second round with the amount of drops he’s had this year. He has to finish strong to stay in the first round.
