Senior Leadership

The Longhorns haven’t been performing to what is expected of them when it comes to defense. But then again it is the Big 12 (lately not really known for their defense). The reason being is they are always out shined by the prolific offense they have. Without the unstoppable offense that so you call “good” defense is left to dry like a fish on a deck. Luckily for Bevo’s squad, they have two standout players.

The first one is Emmanuel Acho (For those who don’t know him he wears No. 18). He played every game for the Longhorns in his career, but he really hasn’t started that much until his senior season. Even though he hasn’t started every game; he has put forth a great four seasons for the Longhorns. Playing in 41 games and started 19 of them, Acho recorded 205 tackles (118 solo), 30 tackle for losses, 7 sacks, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. Emmanuel Acho  wasn’t just a stud on the field, but a genius in the classroom. He was voted first- team Academic All- Big 12 selection twice. Both a freak and a geek are impressive to say the least.

Last but not least is Keenan Robinson. He is a fifth year linebacker. Unlike Emmanuel Acho, Keenan appeared his second year of college due to the fact Sergio Kindle had his spot (plays for the Baltimore Ravens). With one more year of “experience” than his true freshman counterpart, Robinson recorded 24 tackles (16 solo) and leading the special teams with 10 tackles. Just like Acho, Robinson was voted a three-time member of the UT’s Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. With this year being his last year as a Longhorn, I believe that Keenan Robinson will get the award he rightfully deserves.

Without their presence in the midfield of the defense; Texas would have a losing record right now. Having those two make Texas’ defense a “living nightmare” (take living nightmare very lightly) for teams. They have so much passion and enthusiasm for the game. Anything they do/ anything they say will make the young-lings play better. This is why Emmanuel Acho and Keenan Robinson were voted to be semifinalist for the Butkus Award and Lott Trophy.

Acho and Robinson won’t be remembered as much as the legendary linebacker Derrick Johnson, but remembered enough by the ones who are true Longhorn fans. They are the ones who built a gateway for those who follow after them. To not only to be a freak on the field but a geek in the classrooms.
