News has recently surfaced that talks between the Big East and BYU have stopped for now and it is not known when and if they will ever resume.

The Associated Press has reported that BYU will not join the conference.

BYU rejected the final offer by the Big East on Tuesday and it is not known whether or not they will receive another one.

The deal breaker was BYU wanting to be guaranteed that it can keep its current television contract. The Big East has never done that for any school and BYU will have to accept the offer that is on the table if they want to join the Big East.

San Diego St. will be the next school the Big East will go after as Boise St. wants a school that is also from the west to join the conference with them.

Getting the Aztecs will be necessary if the Big East wants to be guaranteed to have Boise St.

Houston, SMU and Central Florida are expected to announce within a week that they have joined the Big East in all sports.

The other remaining team, Air Force already has an invitation, but a decision is not expected until near the end of the year.

With three teams expected to announce that they have joined, the three the Big East lost have already been replaced.

Adding San Diego St. and Boise St. would likely help the Big East retain their automatic BCS status.

Now, if they can only convince BYU to join, the transition would be complete.
