Eccentric NFL wide receiver, Chad Johnson, is never one to shy away from the spotlight. That’s why, at the age of thirty, he changed his name to Ochocinco, paying tribute to his #85 Cincinnati Bengals jersey.
Now, Ochocinco is changing his name once again, but this time, his choice isn’t nearly as flashy.
The current New England receiver, has announced that on July 4 of this year, he will drop “Ochocinco” and once again be officially known as Chad Johnson.
Though he didn’t make the reason for the change known, some believe he is looking for a fresh start, likely with a new team, while others feel it could be due to his upcoming marriage to VH1′s Basketball Wives reality star, Evelyn Lozada.
Lozada, ex-wife of former NBA player, Antonie Walker, ended her relationship with Johnson earlier this year, but a few days later, it was announced that not only are the two back together, they are planning on getting married this summer.
But marriage isn’t the only change coming for Johnson.
It is likely that the flamboyant receiver will also be looking for a new team this summer.
After being a star in Cincinnati the last several years, Ochocinco had a disappointing season with New England this year, catching just 15 passes for 276 yards and 1 touchdown.
Only time will tell what the future holds for the receiver–whether or not the on-again-off again couple go through with tying the knot, or where he will land next season, but with a new name, perhaps this really is a new beginning for Chad Johnson.
