Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett Gets Screwed By NBA
Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett got screwed by the NBA league office today as they killed a deal for KG that would have had him become a part owner of the Italian soccer club AS Roma. The fact that the principal investor for the group buying US Roma is Boston Celtics part-owner James Pallotta is the reason that KG was not allowed to take part in the ownership of this club. KG gets screwed out of a great investment opportunity.
The league commented on why they blocked the move and here is their absurd logic. “If you enter into a business agreement with the owner of a team that doesn’t involve playing service, there are potential problems,” a league source said. “Maybe not in this case. But there is a chance of, say, making a contract a lot larger.” You mean to tell me the NBA cannot figure out what is a bogus deal and what is not? Clearly KG got a contract from Boston that was more than fair for a guy with his injury history and age. This was just the case of a guy that wanted to buy a soccer team and the NBA blew it for him with a terrible call.
Here is why the this argument is garbage. Any deal like this that a player is not the principle pawner can be figured to be bogus by that argument to deny KG ownership. The fact is there is already a precedence with LeBron buying a stake in the Liverpool soccer team last year. When they allowed that sale, KG should have been allowed to buy US Roma. Whether a dirt owner is involved or not means nothing. Doubt me? Here is a possible scenario to prove my point. We talk about making contracts larger, what if Wyc Grousbeck called his buddy Liverpool owner John Henry and told him to give LeBron a larger stake in order to make a contract offer larger in a few years. What is the league going to investigate it? How could they prove that Henry just did not want to dump some of his stake?
The fact is KG has made a lot of money and he loves soccer. He wants to invest and become a part owner of a team. The NBA has zero right to tell him what he can do with his money. The fact is they let LeBron spend his money that way and there are just as many possible bad ties that could happen in his deal with Liverpool. Once again David Stern and his goons screw something else up. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!
