When the Chicago Cubs hired Theo Epstein it seemed like just a matter of time until changes would be brought upon the franchise that is desperately seeking any way to once again achieve greatness. The dealing of Carlos Zambrano to the Miami Marlins was probably not that big of shock seeing how Zambrano has been a bad influence in the locker room and not too popular with the front office either. But Epstein is determined to keep the changes coming and the next one will be in the form of an Alfonso Soriano trade to an American League team.

There are several reports surfacing that the Cubs front office has spoken with eight American League teams over the last six weeks about a deal for Soriano. Soriano’s next destination will be to a team in the American League it’s just unsure as of now as to which team, and when the deal will be done. Soriano hit .244 last season with 26 home runs and 27 doubles while appearing in 137 games and he could be a good pickup for a team looking to bolster their lineup.

Soriano, who turned 36 today, has a full no-trade clause in his contract (as did Carlos Zambrano) and three more years left on his contract worth around $54 million (on a side note a source has confirmed that the Cubs will still be paying $15 million of Zambrano’s $18 million contract this year.) Now although Soriano is destined to be on the move, eventually, Epstein is not rushing the deal just yet. Certainly Epstein will not do a deal unless it is beneficial to the Cubs so it will be interesting to see who he can get in return.
