Prince Fielder Headed To The Washington Nationals?
The biggest free agent left on the MLB market may soon be gone as Prince Fielder may be close to signing a deal with the Washington Nationals according to several reports. The Nationals have been the one team that is constantly being linked back to Fielder and one anonymous MLB source said that they are now the favorite to land Fielder and that a deal is close to being reached. Certainly the arrival of Fielder to the Nationals would make them a prime candidate to reach the playoffs in the already stacked NL East. Fielder would be added to a lineup that will be lush with top prospects come next season when Bryce Harper is expected to make his MLB debut in the Nationals opening day game.
If the anonymous reports and unnamed sources were not enough to sway your mind that Fielder will be going to the Nationals then why not take it right from a source close to the situation, Cecil Fielder (Prince’s Dad). Cecil went on, local Washington area radio station 106.7 FM’s host, Holden Kushner and former MLB general manager Jim Duquette’s show on SiriusXM to discuss his son’s free agency situation. Now although Cecil and Prince’s relationship has been rocky for quite a while now, it seems that the two did talk on Christmas Eve and did discuss Prince’s landing spot.
Cecil said that he believes that Washington would be a great place for Prince to end up and that he believes that is where he will ultimately go. His exact quote for anyone who is interested was this, “Personally, I think that’s what’s gonna happen”. Now although a deal does seem imminent between Prince and the Nationals, some parties still believe that Prince’s agent, Scott Boras, is only using the Nationals to drive up the price for other teams who are interested. But people in the front office of a few MLB teams believe that is not the case and that the Nationals and Fielder are serious about getting a deal done.
