Magglio Ordonez Close To Retirement
Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

Former Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez has had an up and down career that has been riddled with injury from time to time but has been uplifted with incredible triumph. However, Ordonez’s career may be coming to end, according to a tweet that Ordonez sent Tuesday afternoon.

There was a problem connecting to Twitter.

Jason Beck of MLB.com confirmed the tweet while Chris Iott of MLive.com confirmed that the account was indeed Magglio Ordonez’s Twitter account.

Ordonez is still mulling the idea of officially retiring. He told Venezuela’s El Nacional’s Ignacio Serrano:

“It’s not official, I still haven’t retired, but if in something doesn’t appear in the next two weeks, I think that will be my final decision.”

Ordonez also said that he does not want to play in the minor leagues at all.

Ordonez suffered a fractured ankle against the Texas Rangers in the ALCS. Although he has been cleared to resume baseball activities and expressed interest in playing in the 2012 season, Ordonez has not received much interest outside of the Oakland Athletics. However, the A’s turned around and signed Manny Ramirez even though he will have to serve a 50-game suspension for his second violation of Major League Baseball’s drug policy.

Ordonez, when healthy, has been great. He has played only for the White Sox and the Tigers in his 15-year career. He has hit 294 home runs, driven in 1236 RBI and has batted .309/.369/.502 for his career.

He is also known for hitting the walk-off home run in the 2006 ALCS to propel the Tigers into the World Series, only to lose to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ordonez has only played 176 games in the last two years and has missed a great deal of time due to injury. Do not be shocked if Ordonez does decide to retire.
