Are The Los Angeles Dodgers As Good As They Look?
Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

The Los Angeles Dodgers have gotten off to a ridiculous start. The question on everyone’s mind is simply: can they keep it up, and are they for real? I don’t know if I have all the answers, but I can tell you one thing- I don’t think they’re as real as they seem due to some glaring needs, however- the NL west isn’t exactly the toughest division in all of baseball. Don’t get me wrong, I think the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks are virtually good teams, but I don’t see either winning a title this year. That leaves the door open for the Dodgers to walk through, I’m just a little hesitant to say they will.

Matt Kemp is an outstanding player, and there’s a case to be made that he’s the best player in baseball. When are teams going to stop pitching to him? Because I would imagine that day is coming soon. The problem with the Dodgers is if teams do pitch around Kemp, I don’t think they have enough weapons in the order to really make that decision hurt. I like Andre Ethier, but he hasn’t been the player he could be in quite some time. James Loney forgot how to hit it seems like, and there isn’t another major “thumper” in that order. That to me is going to be their downfall.

The thing that will keep the Los Angeles Dodgers in it this year is their pitching. Clayton Kershaw and the back end of their bullpen are going to keep them in it. If Chad Billingsley and Ted Lilly can be 13-15 win pitchers, sure, the Dodgers can be as good as they seem.

It’s early, and that’s why I don’t want to get on their bandwagon- YET. If they keep playing like they are, I’ll be forced to change my opinion.
