The best closer in the history of baseball just had his 2012 season stolen from him.  New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera suffered a knee injury early Thursday night as he was shagging fly balls.  The official news on the injury is that Rivera has suffered a torn ACL.  Although it is not for certain, I would imagine that he is out for the rest of the season.

If you think you know of a better closer than Rivera, please enlighten me.  The man has made a living off of basically one pitch.  When you face Mo, you know exactly what you are getting.  A steady diet of cutters, yet it is rare for teams to touch him up.  He is that good.  If you can throw one pitch and just dominate players, you know you are one of the best to ever step on the mound.

We will have to wait for official confirmation, but I imagine that he is lost for the season.  It is at least a six month injury, which puts us into November.  Baseball is over by then.  This could also be the end of his storied career.  That would be the bigger shame than him missing one season.  He has been around forever and he can not have much left in the tank.  Father Time always wins, unless you are Jaime Moyer.

Rant Sports will keep you updated on this story as more information becomes available.  We wish for the best for Rivera and his recovery.
