Naked Streaker Interrupts Cardinals-Phillies Game
Jeff Curry-US PRESSWIRE

A naked streaker ran onto the field at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Thursday night, disrupting a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies. People run onto baseball fields, albeit not often enough to say it happens often, but it happens. However, people certainly don’t run onto the field completely naked often.

As with most events such as this one, Twitter is perhaps the best place to be if you can’t be in the actual stadium. Thursday night was no different. Here are some of the greatest moments.

The initial report, from Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, who was present at the game and was all over the coverage all night long:

Naked streaker in St. Louis. Took a dozen people to track him down. Cops getting a towel from Phillies bullpen.

Somewhere during that report, the streaker apparently avoided several police and security officers, until the debacle ended in this fashion:

Streaker faceplanted as he jumped to acknowledge a cheering crowd.

Next, Jeff provides us with a scouting report:

I'd say the streaker was more of a north-south runner than anything. Decent speed. Lost his footing on cuts. Should've at least worn spikes.

And now, for the crowning outcome of the whole event:

The most perfect photo I've seen this year. The framing alone should win it a Pulitzer: http://t.co/o3DQZZKG

And now for some additional analysis:

My editor, Matt Romig, zoomed in on the streaker's right-side tattoo. It's two words: Hakuna Matata.

Then came the humor. First, a callback to the rally squirrel that made his way onto the Cardinals 2011 World Series ring after interrupting a playoff game between the Cardinals and the Phillies, and seemingly being the ultimate sign of good fortune for St. Louis for the rest of their playoff run.

Next year's World Series rings are gonna RULE. RT @jh_moore Somehow I don't think Rally Naked Man is going to catch on like Rally Squirrel.

Certainly, there were no magic powers in the streaker’s appearance, as the Cardinals were losing 9-7 when he appeared on the field at the start of the 7th inning, and the final score was 10-9 in favor of Philadelphia.

To tie a pretty bow on it, a final reflection of the evening, and the 2012 MLB season in general.

A perfect game … a four home run game … and now, this photo: http://t.co/FcrVRfsc A banner year for baseball and we're only 1/4 through.
