Jose Bautista To Have Season Ending Wrist Surgery
Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

Jose Bautista was having a great season for the Toronto Blue Jays before a mis-step caused a wrist injury.  Bautista was out for a number of games but tried to return recently.  That return did not work out so well, so the home run masher is going to sit out the rest of the year after having left wrist surgery.

This is an extremely smart move for Jose Bautista.  The Blue Jays are not going to make the playoffs this year so there is no reason for him to keep playing.  Have the surgery now and be 100 percent for spring training.  He might be upset that he will miss the rest of the season but his long term health is important.

He has been one of the breakout players the last few years and it would be a shame for his wrist injury to slow that down.  I expect him to make a full recovery and start mashing homers again next season.  If he is not the old Joey Bats, the Blue Jays are going to struggle.  He is the big bat in the middle of the lineup that every good team needs.

If the Blue Jays can avoid all the injuries that they had this year, they will be a playoff contender next year.  This year simply had to be an injury outlier.  No team has been hit harder than the Jays and they even kept it together for a little while.  The injuries just became too much so it looks like the team is getting ready for 2013.
