Signing Mario Williams was a huge move for the Buffalo Bills for a variety of reasons.  As the team, who has spent the last 12 years missing the playoffs, fights for relevancy in the NFL today it was time to make a big splash and bring in someone who could make things happen.

Mario Williams has done just that.

Williams has not only impressed his fellow players and coaches in the weight room and training, he is now bringing those impressive results to the field, as OTA’s have officially started in Western New York.

“His work ethic has been outstanding,” said coach Chan Gailey, whose team kicked off organized team activities this week. “He comes to work every day whether it’s just lifting weights or running, whether it’s practicing out here. He’s done a good job not only fitting in but taking a little bit of a leadership role. I think we’re going to be a little fortunate in that we have quite a few guys who have leadership ability.”

The big prize free-agent has taken these voluntary team activities as a chance to really make a mark on his new teammates and franchise as a whole.

“I don’t even think about anything else but going out and working and then day by day and game by game,” said Williams.

That attitude, along with the leadership role being taken is exactly what I, as a fan, want to see from Williams.

While I still expect running back Fred Jackson and Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the offensive leaders, and team leaders in many aspects, my hope is that Williams will be able to jump right in that group quickly.

The defensive end has said and done all the right things so far, let’s hope he keeps it up.
