Video: Roman Harper’s Unnecessary Hit on Steve Smith During Saints-Panthers Game

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2011 season as he continues to display impressive numbers week after week. On Sunday, Smith caught another impressive 54-yard touchdown pass from Cam Newton–but the catch didn’t come without consequences.
Immediately after Smith crossed the goal line, he received an unnecessary hit from Saints safety Roman Harper–which escalated into players from both sides going after one another. It’s understandable these two division rivals hate each other–but what Harper did was completely uncalled for and it was a penalty that should have easily been avoided.
